Drugstore Foundations : Rimmel Face Base

Hey internet friends,

Recently I was in my local boots and came across a brilliant offer for Rimmel products, they were selling all Rimmel cosmetics at 2 for £10 so I thought this would be the perfect time to talk about two Rimmel face bases and one Primer. This brand is super affordable making it a desirable choice, but lets find out what its really like shall we?

All 3
So today I will be talking about the Stay Matte Primer, Match Perfection Foundation and Wake Me Up Foundation.
Including on skin examples obviously…

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

What Rimmel Says:

“The new ultra-mattifying primer can be worn as a matte, silky base before applying your foundation, or on top of your make up to keep you looking effortlessly chic without clogging pores.

Ultra lightweight formula that minimizes the appearance of pores.
Controls shine for up to 8 hours creating a soft, perfectly matte complexion.
Won’t feel heavy or greasy.”

Thats a fairly big promise to live up to Rimmel!

Swatch & On Skin Examples
As you can see the consistency of the product is very much like a face cream, on application it has a slight silicone feel it to but not as heavy as the pore professional for example.
I did feel like this mattifyed the skin and I feel thats evident in the image but in terms of pores or blurring out blemishes it did literally nothing at all.
Rimmel claimed that the product would reduce Shin for up to 8 hours?
Lies lies lies – 5 hours tops.

Verdict — 7/10
Great for daytime and everyday use but for special events and nights out Id spend a little bit more and go for the Body Shop insta blur.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Anti Fatigue Foundations

Wake Me Up bottle
What Rimmel Says:

“Wake Up & Glow! Rimmel’s first liquid foundation that instantly reawakens skin with a healthy, radiant glow Light, moisturising texture applies smoothly and leaves skin feeling soft and comfortable all day Gives an instant flawless, natural-looking finish Visible anti-fatigue effect with peptides and a Vitamin Moisturising complex”

Why do cosmetics companies do this? I read this about 10 times and I STILL don’t know what it means, lets try and break down what Rimmel are promising with this product.
Dewy finish with moisturising effect that lasts all day.
Shouldn’t feel heavy on the skin
Contains peptides and vitamins so should be great and healthy for your skin.

Swatch & On Skin Examples

Super thick gel like consistency that once blended doesn’t feel heavy on the skin at all, I blend with the Real Techniques buffing brush and find the results lead to a fairly light coverage, I felt like two applications is more appropriate without a concealer to really battle redness.
The finish of this foundation is dewy and I expected it to be a complete nightmare on my oily skin but I can pleasantly say it lasted about 6 hours before I needed to powder or touch up.
Im not normally fond of a dewy foundation as with most oily skin types it can make me look a little greasy but this product just doesn’t do that, it looks healthy and glowing.

Verdict – 8/10
Great lasting foundation with a nice healthy finish, probably not appropriate for an event taking loads of photos due to the glowing properties but for a lovely light and natural look this foundation would be perfect.

Rimmel Match Perfection
Match Bottle
W hat Rimmel Says:

For Invisible Coverage & Visibly Perfected Skin

• Invisible, mistake-proof foundation for visibly perfected & healthier looking skin.
• Weightless, smooth texture blends with skins real tone instead of masking it.
• 24HR moisture complex leaves skin feeling hydrated.
• Soft-focus powers help reduce imperfections, pores & dark circles.

Swatch & On Skin Examples
Runny and watery consistency – surprisingly this foundation feels a full coverage as appose to the medium you’d expect from a watery consistency foundation.
The coverage is really nice and the finish looks practically airbrushes, its just a well rounded foundation and for the price of £7 its a ridiculous bargain!
I’m really surprised by how much I like this product, it creates a nice, smooth finish, and is really easy to apply and blend using the Real Techniques Buffing brush.

Verdict 9/10
This would be a solid 10 if it wasn’t for the fact that it smells really cheap and typical of all drugstore foundations.
I tend to mix it with my Mac studio sculpt on a daily basis for an amazing skinbase.

I hope you enjoyed this little chat about some of the Rimmel face bases available now.

Bonus Post: Guinea Pig Subscription Box

Hey Internet Friends,

Little bit different today and thats why I’m not posting this on one of my scheduled days because it isn’t even slightly beauty related! Today I received my first ever subscription box and I think after christmas and my birthday this was one of the most exciting days of the year! This subscription box was purely for my gorgeous little Guinea Pig!
(if your just here for the cute guinea pig photo’s scroll to the bottom)

infoThe company I used was  Bunny Box primarily because Ive been ill, have no self control and they were the first website on my google search results. When the box come I was really impressed by how much detail had been put into the cute packaging and information inside.
The boxes differ between £13 – £15 depending on the length of your subscription and every box has 6 products that are all healthy, natural and perfect for your furry babies.

DSC02337 In this box (September 2015)
Dried Plantain
Dried Pear
Boredom Breakers
Grass Sticks
Corn Rollers
Hay Straw Ball thing.

I originally ordered this product because honestly I was ill and bored but Im honestly really glad I did. If you work out that the products easily have a retail value of more than the price you pay for the box it works out a terrific bargain too.
Worth it to keep my little bramble bear happy and excited.

brambleboxBramble went absolutely mental with all the smells and new toys and it was squeaks galore!
She’s been my little friend for two years now and I have never seen her this excited before.
I will certainly be ordering a bunny box again and can easily see us considering a subscription after this box has been thoroughly destroyed!

Hope you didn’t mind a little different post today guys,

Do you have any subscription boxes that you think I might love?

Super Easy Gradient Sponge Nail Art

Hey Internet Friends,

Guys, Im super ill with a horrendous chest infection so Im really struggling to update the blog, so todays post is a super easy walk through of a little technique I use to make my nails look super cute and impressive with very little effort. Im fairly sure you’ll have seen this technique before but its one of my faves, so I wanna let you in on it just in case.

Easy Gradient Sponge Nail Art
DSC02265For this you will need:
Some pieces of sponge, either specialist beauty sponges or I just use some cheap sponge from the supermarket.
Two Nail colours that complement each other, my choices are
Barry M Chai
Barry M Almond
And a clear top and base coat.

Step 1 – Base Coat and first colour.
DSC02275Apply the clear base coat as you normally would and your first colour choice to the whole nail. This will work as a base for the finished look and is worth getting perfect with no smudges or bumps.

Step 2 – Paint that Sponge
DSC02283Take your second colour and apply it to the sponge, then take the piece of sponge and gently dab it onto your nail concentrating on the tip of the nail and working your way around half way down.

DSC02293The finished result after doing this should look a little like this, now this is pretty and looks very nice but it feels super bumpy and doesn’t feel as great as it looks.

Step 3 – Top coat
DSC02299Clear top coats are super important for creating a beautiful finish and fine they also work well to keep the polish in place for longer and avoid chipping.

The finished Look.
DSC02310As you can see this is a pretty and salon professional look with using the things you already have and a sponge. Super easy, even when your feeling awful and ill.

It also works for lighter colours too:

Hopefully you enjoyed this post and can forgive me for this quick post, hopefully I’ll be better soon and we can have the long chats were used too.

Have you guys followed my twitter yet?

Benefit Holiday Gift Sets 2015 : Real Cheeky Party

Hey internet friends,

I don’t know if you guys have noticed but exciting things are happening in our favourite make up stores over the next few weeks! The counters are starting to get their holiday gift sets on display and let me tell you there isn’t much more in this world that excites me more than that!
You really can get some amazing value bargains in gift sets and don’t you dare feel any shame for buying them for yourself!
Today I want to talk to you about Benefits range that I saw them put up in my local stores today, and about the gift set I purchased from the range.

titleThe majority of the benefit christmas gift sets seem to be focused around the idea of party make up and feeling extra special! Some gift sets contain a full face of make up where as some are for specialist areas like lips, cheeks and eyes so their is plenty of choices for everyone.
There is also some perfume sets however I don’t think this is something I would gift to someone else or to myself.
The gift set I chose to pick up today holds the highest overall saving, containing £110.23 of make up for £29.50 and that is the Real Cheeky Party kit.

PackagingThe packaging for this like all this years gift sets is highly influenced by pop art and is beautifully bright and really gets you in the festive spirit. Im really happy that the packaging for this isn’t overly christmassy as it means I can use it all year round and now feel bad that I haven’t finished it yet, you feel a little silly using a Christmas inspired palette in May!
The actual box that the products are contained in is made of an embossed metal and really does feel special and makes it an incredibly thoughtful gift.

insideThe Cheeky Party gift set contains exactly what the title would suggest and that is an array of products based for use on the cheeks, this set contains:
Blush & Bronzers:
Hoola Bronzer (Full review of Hoola)
Supporting Products:
Watt’s Up Highlighter
They’re Real Push Up Liner
They’re Real Mascara

It also comes with a cute little leaflet containing some handy tips and best way to get the most use from the products.

I will finish by saying that I am ridiculously excited by this set, the blush and bronzing products are nearly the same size as the full size version and around the same price as just one full sized product for the whole set you absolutely cant go wrong.

What Gift sets are you looking forward to getting your hands on this year?

Would you like to see a fuller review of any of the products in this kit?

Autumn Dramatic Make Up

Hey Internet Friends,

Today I want to share with you a dramatic make up look I am looking for the autumn/fall months, its perfect for night out and any parties you may be attending over the festive season or an everyday look if your feeling a little extra brave.
I find golden smokey eyes and berry lips a must in autumn, and I absolutely love this season for all things cosy and warm and thats what I have used to inspire this look.
So lets get started shall we?
EDIT: I shot and wrote this post on the 7th of september as I schedule my posts a fair way in advance so I apologise for any similarities it may hold to anything else you may have seen this week.

Skin Base
skinbaseI start with my concealer applying it roughly with a Real Techniques pointed foundation brush then roughly apply my Mac Studio foundation with the same brush.
The buffing or blending is the most essential part of the whole process, using the Real Techniques buffing brush I really work the product into my skin for a flawless finish.

Products Used
Skinbase productsMac Studio Fix Fluid & Mac Pro Longwear Concealer
Both of these products are super long wear as the name suggests and full coverage with a matte finish, I much prefer matte finish foundations as I get a really oily skin.

The Eyes
eyeshadowI said Dramatic!
I love this bronzed smokey eye and feel with the bronzed ‘High’ colour underneath the eye it really complements my blue eye shadow and pale skin.
Using a clean blending brush is key for this look to really work and look super smokey.

Products Used
eyeproductsNaked Smoky Eyeshadow, Benefit Brow Kit in Medium with the Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil and the Mac Eyeliner in Coffee.

Bronzer & Blush
bronzer&blushI really wanted to keep this simple and glowing to not draw attention away from the eyes and lips.
For this look I used my favourite Bronzer and Blush

Products Used
b&b productsHola Benefit & Boujois Blush

For a full review of Hoola Please click HERE

The finished look
finishedlookI completed the look with a berry lip because its autumn and why wouldn’t you?
I think this look is perfect for autumn and really brings to the table everything we love about fall make up collections. I feel if you wanted to pull full focus to lips a nude lip colour would also work or a slight pink gloss.

I hope you enjoyed this look and all the products I used!

Please link me to your autumn/fall make up looks as I love seeing other peoples ideas?

Also, if you re-create this look I’d absolutely love to see.

Autumn Nail Colours : Barry M

Hey Internet Friends,

So autumn (or fall depending on where your from) is officially upon us meaning we can wear our comfy clothes, overstock on chapstick, watch films with hot chocolates and crack out those berry and neutral tones. Ohhh autumn faithful friend, how I’ve missed you!
Today I plan on talking to you about some Barry M nail colours I think will be perfect for autumn…

DSC02046My colour choices are mostly berry tones and neutrals as I think they are the most complimentary throughout autumn. The berry tones will compliment the lipsticks or blush I plan to wear and the neutrals will compliment most of my outfit choices throughout autumn.
My brand of choice as always for these is Barry M, there super cost effective and have a great colour pay off and shine.
The Gelly range they offer is also really long lasting and tough and for my job thats a super important quality for any nail polish.
The colours featured from Left to Right are: Ballerina, Cappuccino, Bright Purple, Chai & Pomegranate

On Nail Examples
I find this the perfect nude/neutral colour and I must admit I wear it all year round but it is especially beautiful for autumn as its incredibly complimentary to any outfit, my nude lipsticks that I usually wear for work and my pale complexion.
The above application is two coats with a base coat and no top coat for the sake of this blog post, usually to increase hardness I would apply a top coat too.

I think nearly everyone in the beauty community would suggest a lovely berry colour for autumn, while this is a berry tone it is also a colour that has a little extra brightness and because it is part of the Gelly range its incredibly shiny and tough.
I love this colour however due to how truly bright it is I only tend to wear it when I don’t have to be at work for a few days.

This is the colour I am currently wearing and I LOVE it, the perfect neutral tone that works with every single thing I wear and really makes my nails look pretty and sophisticated.
This is also part of the High Shine Gelly range and you can really really tell.
I can wear this anywhere for any occasion and feel great about myself.

Hope you enjoyed this little post, I know I enjoyed writing it.

What colours are you loving for nails throughout Autumn?

New Purchases! : Handbag, Lush & Real Techniques

Hey Internet Friends,

On Saturday I went out shopping with my mother and we did some damage, not the literal damage just of the money variety!
I also went on a teeny trip to lush last week and wanted to share that with you too so Ive decided to combine the two. Hope Thats ok! 🙂

DSC01987New Handbag, Micellar Cleansing Water, Real Techniques Powder Brush, Jersey Bounce Lush, Charcoal Soap Lush, Two Foam Nail Files.

handbagbothKenneth Cole Reaction Handbag
This was a great bargain from TK Maxx (TJ Maxx in America) and Ive had my eye on one for a while, so when my mum very kindly offered to buy it for me I was so pleased.
Like eyes light up, best day ever excited.
I think this would work lovely as an everyday bag as it isn’t too big and has a large centre pocket and small front pocket for easy access to my phone or other bits and pieces.
Not to mention, its black with silver trim so it will pretty much go with everything.
Super good purchase!

DSC02003Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
Im fairly sure Im the last person in the beauty community to get my hands on this product, mainly because I just cant believe the hype around ‘fancy water’ but when boots points add up, purchases like this happen.
Im hoping this will be a simple solution to removing make up and cleansing my skin, as this can be something I am really lazy at when Im not in the mood.
Garnier says
Like a magnet, the cleansing agents capture and lift away dirt from the skin.
No need to rub to remove impurities and make-up.

I shall be testing this product everyday for at least the next week with different make up so if you would like a full review please let me know in the comments.

DSC02021Foam Nail Files
I much prefer foam files to the more rigid files that are available on the market.
I find these a lot easier to work with and bend to get the right nail shape.
One foam file usually lasts me around one month and considering a pack of two is £2 thats pretty good value!

DSC02010Real Techniques Powder Brush
If I’m being completely honest I didn’t really need this brush at all, but my mum purchased a new foundation at the weekend and I was desperate for her to try the Real Techniques Expert Face brush as we all know its wonderful for really buffing in foundation for a flawless finish and it was buy one get one half price.
So my mum got the Expert Face brush and I picked up the powder brush, this is a staple in any collection and I’ll probably use it for just my setting powder and have a nice clean brush just for that.
I imagine the large surface area of the brush will make it perfect for the T Zone and generally setting make up.

Jersey Bounce Shampoo
What lush says:
Is it time for your hair to bounce back? This honey, linseed and sea salt shampoo is sure to get your hair into the swing of things. Fresh organic lemon juice, hand harvested sea salt and Fair Trade olive oil deliver bounce, shine and an extra bit of TLC to your hair. A trip into the shower with this shampoo is a great way to cleanse the scalp and strengthen your hair. A dose of Fair Trade olive oil will make it easier to comb and shiny to behold. A sumptuous, plumping shampoo for those who want to swing both ways.”

I often visit lush and ask the staff what products they are loving right now and on this occasion the lovely woman suggested Jersey Bounce, she said it has given her hair more volume and just made it look all round healthier so I thought I’d pick it up and give it a try.
The only issue I think I will have with this shampoo is the weird gloopy consistency because of the eggs in it. But, we shall see.

CoalFace Facial Soap
What Lush say:
A gentle soap made with antiseptic rosewood, sandalwood, and absorbent charcoal that can be used on the face and body. Sandalwood oil gives this soap a distinctive earthy fragrance. Charcoal is known for its absorbency, while liquorice root softens the skin and rosewood oil has antiseptic properties. It’s gentle enough for your face, but you can use it all over your body. Simply use as a soap and wash the day off

As readers of my blog will know I have rather oily skin that recently is incredibly prone to spots so it made sense to me that the antiseptic properties in this soap would work well for me, the smell from it is rather masculine so I am hoping this doesn’t linger on the skin.

Hope you guys enjoyed some of my recent purchases, I love sharing stuff like this with you 🙂

Would you like to see any of the above products reviewed more thoroughly?

Have you tried anything I mentioned, what do you think?

Benefit Hoola Bronzer Review

Hey Internet Friends,

Lets have a chat about an amazing product you know I bought recently, Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer. This product has been around for a while and I know so many people have reviewed it already but its new to me and I’m excited about it, so shall we get started.

What Benefit Says:

Hoola is the No.1 selling Bronzer in the UK*
Dust this soft bronze powder over your complexion for a healthy, natural looking “tan” year-round. No tanning bed necessary! Complete with soft, natural-bristle cheek brush. It’s pure colour – no sparkle and no shine!

In the Box
8g of product
A small application brush
A small mirror for application.

The overall size for this product is palm sized meaning it is convenient to carry around in make up bags or as part of any make up storage solutions.
The gorgeous tiki style print using bamboo really adds to the gorgeous aesthetics of the packaging and is a finishing touch I really appreciate.
The Mirror inside is probably my only little niggle with this product, I like to dust off excess powder in the lid and feel the mirror gets in the way of this. I hardly ever use the mirrors in cosmetic product anyway as I have a cosmetics mirror but I do understand why some people may find this useful.
TOP TIP: Keep the plastic cover that separates the brush and powder, this will help the brush to stay clean for longer and will stop the product becoming messy.
OVERALL: The packaging is truly beautiful and really adds to the special feel of this product and makes it a really nice addition to any collection.

DSC01949The Brush
Ok, usually when I get a product like this I just throw the applicator that comes with it, I have dozens of brushes so I never find a need for them.
But this one is really kind of handy for fitting in the cheekbones and along the jaw line, if you are new to bronzing you would probably find this a lot easier to work with than some of the brushes I will mention later for achieving a really defined look.
I don’t think this brush works well for a softer more blended look however.
I also don’t think this brush would stand the test of time, I imagine after a few washes some of the bristles would come loose and it would die a painful ugly death.
Overall: Its a free brush that comes with a product so don’t expect too much but for bronzer newbies it could be a great starting product.

DSC01957Pigmentation and Application
This bronzer unlike so many others offers a full matte finish without orange undertones – a rare find in the bronzer world.
It is also a really buildable product meaning that you can create both a soft natural look or really defined dramatic look, something I really value in a bronzer as I often find I need different bronzers for different make up looks but I have been using this solidly for a week with plenty of different looks and it has worked brilliantly every time.
The pigmentation of this is one of the best bronzers I have ever tried, I probably touch the product twice throughout the whole application so thats very impressive and it means your product will last a long time (so it should at this price)
Gorgeous silky finish means it looks polished over the top of both light and full coverage foundation.
DSC01977Brushes I recommend with this product
Real Techniques Sculpting Brush – This brush is great with this product if you want a really strong defined contour with a full heavy colour pay off. Also fits snuggly at the side of your nose and cheek bones for a defined sculpt (its in the name really)
Real Techniques Contour Brush – I use this for a soft fluttery sweeping glow that complements a golden or matte eyeshadow, small pointed brush that makes detailing with bronzer a breeze.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush – This brush is a real all rounded and works for foundation, bronzer, blush and powder (not all at once obviously) and is great for a warm glowing face rather than a defined contour.

DSC01935My Final Thoughts
I cant encourage you to buy this product enough! It takes all the fear out of bronzing, rids the days of looking like a cheesey Nacho or a swamp monster and is a true 5 star product.
I honestly cant remember what I did before I had this as part of my collection, its absolutely beautiful both the packaging and the product.
Ive literally worn it all week for a lot of different make up looks both day time and glam evening looks and its worked magnificently for both!
I was a little daunted by the price tag and that keep me lusting over it for so long without purchasing but I honestly wish Id have bought it sooner!!

I hope you found this little review useful.
Do you guys own the Hoola Bronzer?

How do you feel about it? Love it as much as me?
